Think Twice Before you call it Quits (relationships, marriage, babies, jobs and calling quits on my website. Don't throw in the towel yet.

Think twice before you call it quits.  This would apply to almost anything.  A relationship, a job, an opportunity, a business, a website, a marriage and just about anything else that applies.

When it is a relationship or a marriage, you really have to think hard about all the options.  Think about all the things that are good and all the bad.  Which outweighs the other?  Is one worse and you just can't deal with it?

Perhaps make a list of all the positive things and then all the bad things that you can't stand.  Then examine them and decide which is worse.  Explore all the things that could happen if you decide to throw in the towel.  Think really hard.  Is the relationship for you?  Can you work out all the kinks?  Will you be satisfied and most of all will you be happy with the outcome?  Or is it the change that is going to make things better.

Think really hard.  Can you really walk away from her or him?  Or aren't they the perfect fit?  Or perhaps is it something in the relationship that you want to change.  A fault.  A compromise.  A change in a situation.  A move.  A big step?  Moving in together.  Tying the knot.  Having a baby.  Having more than one.  Moving to a new house.  Change in a job.

Whatever it is, you both need to sit down and talk about it.  And as a relationship moves on to something more serious, naturally one or both of you are going to want to decide on making a move in the relationship.  Are you ready yet to begin your life under one roof?  Moving in together can be a big deal.  But usually it is something at least one or both of you would want.  Usually this is the girl hoping for it.  Or the girl hoping for marriage.  Lets face it, the girl wants to change her address.

Make sure you are both ready for either moving in together or getting hitched.  Either way, if it ends up being a really long time before it is talked about, one of the two of you is going to question the relationship and want more.  Or leave.

So that is relationships.  Then there is babies.  That is another huge step in life.  Make sure you are ready to play russian roulette, because once that egg is planted, there is no turning back.  And believe me, they will change your life whether you want it to or not.  But they are great.  I love my four.  But at this point in my life, I wouldn't want any more.  If I ever ended up pregnant by some fluke, I surely would love it to death anyway, but I have reached the age where I am done.  I was a breeder, but four is my limit.

Spend time together before you have kids.  Then your time is cut in half.

So that is babies.

The other things when you want to call it quits is your job.  Maybe you want a change.  Tired of your current place of work.  The hours aren't that great, the pay is bad or you aren't happy working where you are at.  Weigh out all the options.  Can you live on less money?  Can you find a different job?  Do you want to do what you really love?

So that's the job.

Now there is the website that you have created for your new business.  This is where I am at.  Well, there are things I would like in my relationship too, but this present thought today has been my website.

My paper doll website has only been up and fully running for the last three months.  It's seen 2030 visitors, but no emails, comments or sales.  I've been kind of bummed out.  This morning, I was almost seriously thinking of calling Vistaprint and pulling the plug.  I called a few other places that I needed to get a hold of, found out I had a credit on one of my utilities so I don't have to pay it for a few months.  That was nice to hear.  Then I was almost ready to call and cancel the website.

Then I got online to my site, went in to edit the website for a minute and add a share button for twitter tweets.  I should go in and do that on every page.  As I was doing that and looking at my stuff and my account, I had a slight change of heart.  I called them up anyway.  I wanted some questions answered and was kind of ready to cancel if I felt like it.

Then, I thought of my old websites that I had created last year in the beginning of the year.  I only gave those two months at the most and I was told by lots of people that I gave up too soon.  And those sites were more expensive and I didn't realize I was locked into a contract for a year and I had to fork over more money to them for quitting early.  And I made nothing.  I was really bummed out by no sales.

So when I was on the phone, I thought back to that time.  And I talked with the girl about calling it quits too early.  I told her I really did want to stick it out for a year.  But I started to ask her some questions about advertising and all the info about google ranks and getting found.  I told her I really couldn't afford to pay for all kinds of advertising.  But we talked about free advertising and different ways of advertising.  Getting the word out.

Of course, all along I have been using my blogs, facebook (which is friends and family and your friends and family usually don't buy your stuff.  They would rather have it for nothing)., twitter, digg (which I have been told is a wasteland), stumbleupon, delicious, buzzfeed, linkedin, myspace, igoogle, blogher, and any other type of social bookmarking site.

I am considering getting my paperdolls on one of the blogs to have for sale on the blogs.  And Blogger is free.

While I was on the phone with her today, she mentioned googling free advertising, which I started to do.  Then she mentioned googling paper doll groups and joining and doing some free advertising with people that are into the same thing.  I thought that was a very good idea and tried to join two places so far.

Then I started looking at free advertising.  I started with Yelt and discovered I was sent to a section where I was supposed to pay.  Not free.  Backed out of there.  Then I went to Manta.  I was able to get my website on there for free.  Of course they want you to pay if you want more exposure.  But I called to verify my listing and told them I couldn't afford to pay and could just do the free advertising.

Then, I discovered another place.  Intuit.  I thought, "Oh great, now I am back to my other old website service."  I really liked their website builder though.  It was my favorite site out of the three places I created a website with.  I had one with GoDaddy.com  but never really got that one started.  I had one with web.com but I didn't like their website builder as well.

So, today as I started to sign up for Intuit, I read very carefully the plan.  You can have a free website with them for up to a year and then they charge you $4.99 a month.  Which that isn't that bad.  Especially if by then I'm getting some orders.  Which I really hope.  So today, I have signed up for the free plan for a year.  What you get is a domain, 3 pages and I'm forgetting the other part.  Maybe the memory space?

Which for what I want it for, 3 pages is fine.  So I have published the first page today.  It hasn't been registered yet, but I imagine by tomorrow it will be.  I basically got my first page, with business, address, all the important information.  A big introduction which also refers them to my writing sites and my blogs.  Might as well advertise for them too.  Then at the bottom of the first page I had added a few of the paper doll pictures with some details.  I think my second page will have lots of other pictures and then my third page will be an order form with all the details for them to order.  I haven't decided if I'm going to add paypal buttons.  I don't want to suddenly have two websites where I am paying.

But what it will be basically for is to direct them to the full blown website.  Where they can order paper dolls.

So, I'm not calling it quits on my website yet.  I should give it a good year.  If I was to quit now, I would always be wondering, "What if I had given it a year?  Maybe I would be getting sales."

Paper dolls aren't a neccessity.  It is a specialty.  But people are buying them.  I go to look at the OPDAG paperdoll magazine and I see all these popular new paper doll artists that seem to be making money at what they do.  And I wonder to myself, "How are they doing it?"  I probably should ask the editor to have an article from one of them about the secrets to success and having a successful paper doll website.  That would be really helpful to read.

I once was told by another artist that I had something really unique that could take off and become a business.  I have always remembered that, and now I think, "REALLY?  How do I attempt to do that?  With luck?"

And another person said it takes a lot of advertising.

Well anyway the new advertising website is going to be:  http://www.jennyjopaperdoll.com/  That's the domain name.  But I'm not sure if it will work until I get it registered.

jenniferjofaypaperdolls.net  My paper doll website.

I would really appreciate it if anyone would leave a comment with some possible suggestions.  I will take anything.  I feel like I'm just grasping at straws right now.

Which seems to be the same with the writing sites and earning money writing online.  That's more fun than anything.  And it's kind of fun to see a little bit of money trickle in.  I've actually had enough to buy a dunkin donuts pound of coffee and then some.  And with the writing sites we are getting practice and connecting with a community of writers.  Which is always a good thing.

And selling on ebay is great.  But I would love it even more if my paper doll website could just take flight.  I don't want to throw in the towel just yet.  What if someday I got found?  That would be great.  And if not, I have the paperdolls anyway to pass down to my kids.  But I would love to see it become something else.
Money in my pocket.

So anyway, any suggestions would be helpful.  Maybe there are some things I haven't thought of.

I love myself enough to walk away

Divorce and separation are never an easy thing.  But when you know that it isn't going to work out you really have to love yourself enough to walk away.

When things are really rough and you don't like how you are being treated, you need to look at things in perspective.  Is it more harmful to me to stay in this marriage?  Is it hurting me to stay?

Sometimes women stay in a marriage even though they are being treated badly.  They think they love the guy and are willing to stay and keep getting shattered every day.  They take the hurtful words and let them dig into their bodies and destroy their minds.

When do you know that you need to get yourself out?  If you really love yourself, you will walk away before it is too late.  A harmful, hurtful marriage will slowly eat at you and destroy you until there is no end and you will start to get the blurry eyes and you won't know what is good and what is bad.

Get out now.

When you have kids, it is harder to leave.  Many women want to stay in the marriage for their sake.  They want their children to be in an intact marriage.  But it is no good for the children, when they can clearly see that Mom  or Dad is unhappy.  Unhappy parents make for unhappy kids.  And an unhealthy childhood.

Leave.  They will thank you for it.  It means that you are just going to have new beginnings where you are going to be happy.  That is what you want.  Perhaps a new love.  I did.  I found new love and fresh starts.  And my kids are happy for me.

And the thing you want to stress to your kids the most, is that when Mom and Dad get divorced it doesn't mean that you are going to love them any less.  You want them to know that you are always going to love them.  That hasn't changed.  Mom and Dad both love you.  Love for your children never should change.  You don't want them to feel angry that Mom or Dad doesn't love them anymore.  That isn't true and you know it.  But sometimes they don't know it and it is your job to tell them that you love them.  Often.

How to Make Compromises

We all need to learn the good practice of compromising.  It is what makes a good marriage work really well and last for a long time.  There are many times when we need to learn the art of the compromise.

Have you ever been in a long relationship or a marriage where you suddenly had to sit down, talk things out and learn to compromise?  Maybe you needed to express the things that you really wanted to strongly stand behind and your partner wasn't willing to do something for you.

This is when you need to talk things out.  Together as a team you need to decide what is important and then you need to work out a compromise to the situation that is going to work for you.

Maybe you want your lover, boyfriend or husband to help out more around the house.  And maybe he would like you to try not to nag him as much.  This is when you both need to realize what you want to happen with each other and make sure that things get played out to your liking.  Obviously, you want a change to happen in the sitution.

Maybe there is something he does all the time and you really don't like it.  And maybe there are things you do that are the same for him.  You both need to realize your faults and you need to work at it to make them better.

Maybe you just wish that he would bring you flowers a little more often.  Or express his love for you a little more.  Or maybe you want something different to happen in the bedroom.  You both need to discuss your wants and desires.  Lay it out on the table and express your needs.  If you do this often, things will change for the better if you are both willing to work at your relationships.

A good marriage or long lasting relationship is always open to compromise.  If you don't talk things out, you will always be wishing for something more.  And perhaps you won't end up getting it, because you didn't push for it.  And maybe the relationship will fizzle.

So if you want a relationship to last forever, learn the art of good compromising skills.  And always talk it out in a positive way.  Don't turn it into a yelling match.  Nobody likes to be criticized and hurt.  Harsh words always kill and you find yourself eating your words for breakfast.

What Was Your First Love Like?

Everyone has a first love.  Usually the first love doesn't last forever, but we always seem to remember it.  When was your first love?  Was it puppy love?  Did you have a first love with your childhood crush?  Was it with a best friend?  Did it last a long time?  Was the first kiss really awkward?

My first love wasn't really until I was in college.

I had crushes in grade school and all through junior high and high school.  In grade school, there were two boys that I had a crush on.  In the little grades, I can remember bringing my class picture into my bed.  I would play eeny meany miny moe and then the last boy that was left over was going to be the one that I was going to have as my boyfriend.  I remember doing this little ritual with my class picture every night before I fell asleep.

In junior high I had crushes on several different boys and probably dreamed about them.

In junior high, I had a boy call me on New Years Eve.  He wanted to be my boyfriend.  I think it only ended up lasting for the phone call and a week after that.

In high school, I had a boyfriend at school for about two to three weeks.  He was italian and was one of thirteen children.  It didn't last very long.  I think he became my boyfriend, because he was one of three boys that were hanging out with my small click of girlfriends.  My friends were a little more outgoing and some of the boys liked to hang around us.  And it ended up that he kind of liked me.

But my first love, was a high school guy who I met up with in college.  It was the first real love that I had.  We went out with each other for a good year and a half or longer.  I really loved him.  He was the first one I had sex with.  I think you always remember the first person that you open up your heart to.

I idolized him and I was quiet and kind of clung to him at parties sometimes.  I had a hard time being apart from him when we were mingling at parties.  He was definitely a party guy and was in with the popular crowd, that also happened to be a group of partiers, smokers, pot smokers and more.  Some of his friends had red faces due to a lot of drinking.

I was shy, and he liked to mingle with other people.  I often felt uncomfortable when he would leave me for a little bit.

We ended up breaking up a few times.  He broke up with me the first time.  We were in the car and he even wanted one more kiss before it was the end.  It was awkward.

The second time, I broke up with him.  I moved all my stuff out and left.  He tried to get me back, but I wouldn't budge.

We were just too different and he was unstable.

But you never forget your first love.  It is all new and the first love experience.

How do you Deal with Difficult People?

There are many difficult people out there.  People that want to wreak havoc with you and cause you a pain in your side.  How do you deal with them?  Some of them you can easily dismiss and get on with your life, but there are some of them that just can't be shoved under the carpet.

Some of them are people that you meet maybe once in a brief encounter that probably infuriates you.  Perhaps it is the clerk behind the counter at a local store that is giving you grief.  Say it is about a return or something and you would like your money back.

Like say software.  Most places won't refund you your money if you have opened up the software.  They might think that you have activated it and it will no longer work for someone else.

Today the person who had ticked me off is the girl who keeps requesting her refund for the vintage Tammy doll that she won on ebay.  Well, in other posts I have said that she will not return the doll, so I have told her that she needs to return the doll in order to get a full refund.  She must have opened a case against me tonight, so I responded once again that if she wants a refund she needs to return the doll.  Then ebay walked me through the steps to get her to return the doll.  I finished and ebay said that they were going to send her a notice to return the doll and I will issue her a full refund (which to my benefit, doesn't include return shipping).  Ebay said that she will have 10 days to do it and if she can't, then the case will be closed and in my favor.

And if she tries to give me negative feedback, they will retract it and give her a warning for extortion.

I kind of hope she waits too long and then she will be out of luck.  She sent me another email tonight that there were supposed other things also wrong with the doll.  One arm thicker than the other, hair missing from her head.  In my mind there was nothing wrong with the doll.  This is just a classic case of a person trying to find all kinds of things to knit pick about the doll.

If she sends me more nasty emails, I am just going to not respond to her and let ebay deal with her.

She will be a pain in my side for just a little while longer and then that's it.

But what about the long term people that are difficult to deal with?  How do you handle them?  Some of them might be your co workers and you just have to deal with them and put on a polite and friendly face even though you find them a pain in your rump.  You have to work with them every day, and you don't want to make a bad situation worse.  You don't want something to escalate and get out of control.

Or what if the person is a family member?  That is even worse, because sometimes we open our mouths to stress our opinion and they retaliate against you.  Hey, it happens.  Then sometimes it falls upon you to correct the problem that has compounded.

In this type of situation, it is best to try to resolve it and make things better, even if you have to sacrifice your needs and wishes first.  You are talking about a family member and you don't want to cause a grudge and friction that can shatter the family.

Try to get them to sit down with you and work out the problem.  Sometimes you might need a third party present to be a mediator and a neutral party.  Someone who can offer constructive criticism.

After all, we don't want to have to deal with difficult people for our whole lives.

The Abusive Husband What Justifies him to do things to his wife?

The abusive husband.  Just in fact, who is he?  He could for all you know be the man you are living with.  Maybe he's been good to you for many years and then suddenly something snaps and you don't know who he is anymore.  This was mine.  Although now I can put in the past and forgive him as we both need to be civil and be good friends for our kids.  We are probably the model parents as there is never a single fight in the two and a half years since we have been separated.

But for the three to four years before we got separated, I was an abused wife.  Emotionally.  But for many years we had a good relationship.

No wife should be abused.  Whether it be physical or emotional.  What justifies a man to do that to his wife?  This was mentioned by someone who knew me and knew what he was doing to me.  The person said this to me.

Some husbands physically abuse their wives for a long time.  They have the bruises and broken bones to show it.  Yet, sometimes the woman keeps it to herself in order to protect herself and protect her husband that she still somehow loves.  Yet, what she should be doing is escaping and find help.  Sometimes she just doesn't want to leave the situation.  She stays because it is all she knows.  She stays because she doesn't know how to leave him.

Then, finally she smartens up and says enough.

With me, there was an affair that he did that I couldn't crack, but I knew he had done it.  And then he started talking to my oldest son about all kinds of things that he shouldn't have done.  I was the quiet wife, who just sat by and listened for a while.  The very beginning of my suspicions was the fact that he had a massive erection in the morning, shook the whole bed and said another woman's name.  That was the clencher for me that he had someone.  The other clencher was one night I was in the pantry and came out into the kitchen.  My husband and Sean were sitting in the living room.  Sean goes to Dad, "Is there someone at work?"
Then my husband said, "Shhhhhhh."

Well, that did it.  I figured that when Sean was sleeping over Grandma and Grampas a few nights ago, one of them must have spilled the beans.  How else would he know?  One of them either told him in hopes of it getting back to me, which it did.  Or he overheard one of them talking about it on the phone.  It came from there anyway.

Then the reason that he emotionally abused me for about three years was the fact when I finally confronted him about all that he talked about with the kids and the other stuff.  I overheard him on the phone with someone too, telling them that "I'm going to tell her that it's over."

Well, he pretended like none of it ever happened.  He emotionally abused me and tried to alter my world.  That's a bad parent for doing that to his wife.  And one day he said something about stuff to my face and when we were with our marriage counselor, he pretended like he hadn't said it, yet he said it to my face.

We had an instance with his father many years before that when we were having him and his uncle put new additions on our house.  My girls were little at the time and we did things a little differently seeing as there were all kinds of tools outside for a long time.  The father n law always picked me apart for all kinds of things.  He thought I bought too many groceries for one thing.  Which was none of his business.

Then, I think he must have thought I was abusing my girls which I was not.  I would put the oldest one up for a nap and she would throw a tantrum.  Well, I was not going to be one of those mothers who go up and get her in the first five to ten minutes.  She would pitch a real fit too, to make it seem like I was abusing her.

One day, as the father n law and the uncle were coming in I heard the father n law say, "We ought to put a hidden camera in on Jennifer."  I heard it loud an clear as I was quietly in the living room with my girls.  Walls were knocked down and everything.  You could hear everything that got said.  Not fun.  I got really mad and hollered up that he was fired.

I had my husband fire him.  And then what does the father n law do, "Oh I never said that."  Nasty.  To this day I'm not sure if I can forgive my father n law for that.  What a terrible thing to do to your daughter n law.
I'm civil to him.  Sometimes things can't be forgiven.  Or even if you are able to forgive every one, you still remember it.  You can't forget what they did to you.  You can't erase it.

And the three of them never admitted to ever saying things, yet they did.  I can remember one nasty fight on the phone with my mother n law.  I can't really remember now what it was all about, but I had had enough of her nastiness and I called her on it.  And I'm sure I called her some words.  I do remember I was quite loud, and echoed through the house that day.  I was livid.

So the apple didn't fall far from the tree, which I learned about my husband.  Once, many years ago I had told them that I was so glad he wasn't like his parents or else I would divorce him.  I later found out that he was exactly like them.  And we had a falling out, and things went sour.

So mine was all emotional, but I would also have hated for it to ever get physical.  They are both bad in my eyes.  No man should abuse his wife.  By abusing his wife, he is being a bad parent to his children.

But, anyway, for me it is all in the past, but I haven't forgotten.  I remember it crystal clear.  But it's just been many years and lots of water under the bridge.  Sometimes I think back and wonder how it even happened.

I kind of have a few ideas.  I think it might have partly to do with me.  One year when my youngest daughter was in preschool the teachers finally hired a man to be one of the teachers.  He was young, and I think single
and I had a crush on him, but I had to can it.

But I didn't can my fiction novel.  Lustful Evangelean.  I suddenly started dressing pretty instead of dumpy.  I got quite revealing, yet never ever had an affair.

But in my story Evangelean's husband had several affairs and Evangelean also lusted after Gauthier.  And my husband might have read parts of the story in the beginning.  When I first started writing it, I left it in plain site and I think he read it and then told the kids.  Then later that day, my oldest daughter who wasn't really old at the time, came up to me and said, "Mommy has a lover."  I was floored and wondered where that came from.  All I can think of was he read it and told them.

Which in plain fact, it was fiction.  Then all kinds of things started happening.  I don't want to go into all of it.  I think it sparked him to have an affair though.  I don't know how long it lasted.  When I confronted him about the woman that he said when he had an erection he exclaimed that she was a 65 year old woman.  Then, I went on to say, "She must have been pretty damn good looking to have an erection about her."  He just laughed in my face.

Then, one night he said, "You can't crack that case."

I went through a lot, it was really hard, and then the reason I didn't get custody of my children was because they put a false sickness on me and said that I was skitzophrenic, which I clearly was not.  So the judge automatically gave him custody because of the supposed disease.

The day was nasty, and that judge didn't listen to me for one minute when I told her I was a battered woman.  Nasty.

But life just happens and you can't change it.  Now I kind of like the way it worked out, because I still get to see my kids all the time.  It's all in the past.  And then I have some quiet nights to myself and weekends with my boyfriend sometimes.  It all works out fine, I'm friends with his mom, and I have a life too.  So, when something like that happens it is good to put it in the past.  But don't ever forget what happened.

And if your husband is currently abusing you or hitting you and getting physical, it is time to wake up and smell that coffee and say enough of it.  Get out.  If he won't then you need to.  Before he kills you.

And if you do get divorced, you have got to be civil for your kids.  No kid wants to get caught in the middle of all kinds of fights.  Don't pit them against either one of you.

This is him trying to snuff the life out of you.  And the blood is the pain of the abuse that he has done to you.
